Microsoft plans to unify its OneNote and OneNote apps for Windows 10 into a single OneNote app. The software maker takes all of the improvements to its OneNote UWP app for Windows 10 and brings them to the traditional OneNote desktop app instead.

These improvements will appear in a series of updates over the next 12 months for the traditional OneNote desktop app that installs as part of Office. The updates include a visual refresh and “key existing features currently unique to OneNote for Windows 10.” It’s not clear what features from OneNote for Windows 10 will move to the OneNote desktop app, but Microsoft says “we’re working to ensure that all of the most popular features will continue to be part of OneNote.”

Existing users of the OneNote dedicated app for Windows 10 will be encouraged to upgrade to the full OneNote desktop app in the second half of 2022 from a single OneNote app on Windows while enjoying the interface and features. features you already know, ”says the OneNote team.

While Microsoft is not immediately removing the UWP version of OneNote for Windows 10, the company notes that OneNote users are expected to switch to the desktop app by October 2025, when OneNote for Windows 10 will reach end of support. .

These changes to OneNote on Windows will not affect other Microsoft OneNote apps for macOS, iOS, Android, or the web. It’s just about Microsoft unifying its separate OneNote apps into something that hopefully has the best of both UWP and desktop worlds.
