The story of Microsoft’s Universal Windows Apps seems to be paying off for big media companies looking to get gaming console space. Fox has now brought its new Windows 10 version of its Fox Sports GO to Xbox One. .
It’s the Well new. The bad news is that the launch has unintended consequences.
First off, the Fox Sports GO app can be found in the Store with a simple search on the Xbox, and it should soon appear in the general new apps area, if it hasn’t already. The app loads quickly, and it’s clear the company has refined the app for the big screen with better UI controls and a slightly different layout than the PC and mobile version.
The bad news is that the app does not properly authenticate your TV provider (at least not on our machine with Verizon). The Fox Sports GO app requires a cable subscription, and like other apps, you need to log into your account to verify. It is currently not working which means you cannot watch live TV yet.
The other issue is that it looked like when the app was submitted to the store, the company unchecked PC and mobile support. So although the Fox Sports GO website still advertises the app for PC and mobile and the Store continues to display screenshots from that platform, you cannot download the app. if you wanted it for a new device.
If you’ve already installed it, it still works as before, of course.
There’s no reason to believe Fox is pulling the app, which launched in April for PC and Mobile on the same day it rolls out the same code for the Xbox One.
Hopefully this will be all sorted out in time for tomorrow’s free UFC Fight Night 95 in Brazil (come on, Cyborg!).
Thanks, hellknight74, for the tip!
